Well, the move from Luxembourg to Scotland is now almost complete. My computer is back up, the broadband is working and, perhaps most importantly, the Tortis picks are now out of the chaotic mess of boxes and can now be sent out to you, my eager customers! The speed bevel is designed to simulate the wear pattern that comes from years of picking with a favourite pick. It's always better to let the pick wear down naturally, since that way it will match your playing style. However, the material used for New Tortis picks doesn't wear down very fast and so the speed bevel gives it a helping hand and speeds up the process.
When a pick wears down, two things happen. Firstly, the player gains a little speed because the wear pattern better fits the up and down strokes of the player's style. Secondly, in many cases, the pick then breaks or wears through and has to be reshaped with steel wool or sandpaper, thus losing real-estate.
Some players prefer to order standard picks and shape them themselves using a nail buffing kit. This can yield very good results, but there is always a risk that you will go too far and ruin the pick.
When treated properly, Tortis picks will provide you more picking speed without wearing through. The best of both worlds!
