Well, the move from Luxembourg to Scotland is now almost complete. My computer is back up, the broadband is working and, perhaps most importantly, the Tortis picks are now out of the chaotic mess of boxes and can now be sent out to you, my eager customers! Genuine tortoise shell, or, more accurately, turtle shell, has been used to make guitar plectrums for many years and, for some, nothing else will do. The harvesting and trading of tortoise shell is now illegal; thankfully, we now have a substitute that offers all the tonal qualities of tortoise shell, but without the guilt.
Tortis picks are made from polymerised animal protein, which is very close chemically to real tortoise shell. Like real tortoise shell, it is completely organic. You could look at it as cultured tortoise shell. Many people who have tried picks made from this material cannot tell them apart from the real thing.
